the community destroyed

The community of Hersfeld, a town of the imperial abbey, was destroyed during the Black Death.

It appears in the lists of Hessian communities annihilated, between Fulda and Eschwege.

The community, protected by the abbot in exchange for a fee, disappeared with the wave, and this revenue disappeared with it. Jews were recalled there in the following century under letters of residence that remained always revocable.
