the Jewish quarter attacked
The Jewish quarter of Calatayud, on the Jalón, was attacked during the Black Death.
It was one of the most populous in Aragon and housed a renowned school. As in Saragossa, the community reconstituted itself and endured until the following century.
The city, built on the ruins of a Muslim fortress, had several synagogues and a cemetery on the hill; documents from the Crown of Aragon allow us to trace its families across two centuries.
