the community attacked

Mergentheim, struck forty years earlier during the Rintfleisch summer, saw its community attacked once more by the Armleder bands.

The movement spread by following rumors of desecrated hosts, carried from one town to the next. No inquiry was ever conducted; the accusation was self-sufficient, and the same story, with the same detail of blood spurting from the bread, was reused in dozens of localities without anyone noting that it was everywhere identical.
