the community destroyed

The community of Ansbach was destroyed during the Rintfleisch massacres. The city belonged to the burgraves of Nuremberg, future margraves of Brandenburg.

Contemporary chroniclers, both Christian and Jewish, agree on the methodical nature of this band: it moved from town to town along a set itinerary, swelled with local people, and disbanded after each passage. Nothing in the sources indicates that it met armed resistance before reaching the larger cities.
