L'un des rabbins les plus éminents de Hongrie avant la Shoah. Rabbin et av beit din de Vác (Vietzen) à partir de 1884. Comptait, avec le Maharshag et R. Mordekhaï Winkler (Levushei Mordechai), parmi les trois grandes autorités halakhiques de Hongrie. Il anima et alimenta la revue rabbinique Tel Talpiyot publiée à Vác dès 1892.
