Poète hébraïque né à Złoczów (Galicie, auj. Zolochiv, Ukraine) le 27 décembre 1856, mort à New York le 8 octobre 1909. Il écrivit le poème Tikvatenu (« Notre espérance »), devenu les paroles de Hatikvah, l'hymne national d'Israël. Secrétaire du chrétien sioniste Laurence Oliphant en Palestine, il finit sa vie dans la pauvreté à New York.
