Gabriel Jacob Günzburg, fils de Naphtali Hirz, est un financier et philanthrope lituanien né à Wilna vers 1793 et mort à Simferopol, en Crimée, le 2 mai 1853. Installé à Kamenetz-Podolsk après son mariage à Vitebsk, puis actif à Saint-Pétersbourg, il consacre sa fortune à quatre villes — Wilna, Vitebsk, Kamenetz-Podolsk et Simferopol, où il fait bâtir un hôpital — et reçoit le 22 octobre 1848, sur proposition du ministre des Finances, le titre de citoyen honoraire et héréditaire des mains du tsar Nicolas Ier.
