Almanzi, Joseph

Bibliophile et poète, né à Padoue le 25 mars 1801, mort à Trieste le 7 mars 1860, fils aîné du riche marchand Baruch Ḥayyim Almanzi. Collectionneur passionné de livres et de manuscrits hébraïques dès l'âge de vingt ans, il acquiert la bibliothèque de Ḥayyim Joseph David Azoulaï, l'une des plus importantes collections privées de son temps, consultée par Luzzatto, Steinschneider et Zunz. Traducteur raffiné en hébreu biblique des poètes italiens, il publie notamment « Higgayon be-Kinnor » (Vienne, 1839) et « Nezem Zahav » (Padoue, 1858) ; après sa mort, S. D. Luzzatto édite un recueil de ses lettres et poèmes, le « Yad Yosef » (Cracovie et Trieste, 1889).
