Marrane, médecin et poète, il revint ouvertement au judaïsme en Hollande vers 1605, à un âge avancé ; pour célébrer sa réintégration il composa des tercets en espagnol. Sa parente présumée Tamar Barrocas mourut sur le bûcher à Lisbonne le 3 août 1603, aux côtés de Diego de la Ascension.
