Historien polonais, médiéviste et méthodologue de l'histoire, professeur à l'Université de Varsovie ; d'ascendance juive, il se cacha des Allemands en raison de ses origines juives et fut assassiné au camp de Mittelbau-Dora en 1945. Rédacteur de la Przegląd Historyczny (Revue historique) de 1918 à 1939.
