Georg Brandes

Danish literary critic, born Georg Morris Cohen Brandes into a non-observant Jewish family, whose 1871 Copenhagen lectures on the "Modern Breakthrough" (published as Main Currents in Nineteenth Century Literature) reshaped Scandinavian and European literary criticism and influenced figures like Ibsen.
