Alfred « Fred » Zinnemann est né à Rzeszów en 1907, fils de parents juifs, Oskar et Anna (née Feiwel) Zinnemann. Réalisateur austro-américain majeur, il a signé High Noon (1952), From Here to Eternity (1953), A Man for All Seasons (1966) et Julia (1977), et remporté quatre Academy Awards. Il a publié à 85 ans son autobiographie A Life in the Movies (1992).
