Attack — Jerusalem, Zion Square
4 juill. 1975·Jérusalem, place de Sion
The toll is reproduced exactly as the source states it — never rounded, never added to another. Tolls overlap from one event to the next.
In July 1975, a refrigerator packed with explosives was abandoned in Zion Square, in the center of Jerusalem, at the hour when the commercial district was at its most crowded. The charge detonated among passersby, killing several people and wounding many more; the facades of neighboring buildings were blown apart.
The method of operation — a bulky, ordinary object left in a busy street — inaugurated a series of attacks targeting the spaces of everyday life rather than military objectives. Zion Square, a pedestrian crossroads in the city center, would be struck again on several occasions in the decades that followed.
