The authorities of the fascist republic draw up lists of Jews in Turin and proceed with arrests; the detainees pass through the city's prisons before being handed over to the Germans.

Arrests begin in Turin in the autumn, following the publication of the ordinance of the Repubblica Sociale. The chief rabbi of Turin is taken along with his family. The community lists, seized from the headquarters on via Pio Quinto, guide the operations. Many Turinese Jews then cross into Switzerland or hide in the Piedmontese valleys, where peasant and religious networks shelter them.
