The Italian Social Republic orders the arrest and internment of all Jews on its territory and the confiscation of their property.

Police Order No. 5, issued on November 30, 1943, by the Italian Social Republic, ordered the arrest of all Jews present on the territory it controlled, their internment in camps, and the confiscation of their property for the benefit of the State. It came after the German occupation of the Peninsula and the raid on the Rome ghetto, and it made the Italian authorities the direct executors of the persecution.

The prefectures opened provincial camps; the internees were then gathered at Fossoli, then at Bolzano, before convoys to Auschwitz. Many Italians hid their neighbors, convents and parishes opened their doors, and a significant portion of the community survived; but the administrative apparatus of an Italian State had, for the first time, itself organized the arrests.
