The toll is reproduced exactly as the source states it — never rounded, never added to another. Tolls overlap from one event to the next.
The Germans occupy the seat of the Florence community and the city's nursing homes; arrests continue in waves until spring, despite shelters offered by Tuscan convents.
A raid is carried out in Florence in November, led by German services with the assistance of the Italian police. Jews are taken from their homes, from the convents sheltering them, and even from the synagogue on via Farini. The rabbi of Florence had organized a network of hiding places within the religious institutions of the city and the Tuscan countryside; he is arrested shortly afterward. Those seized in Florence are taken to the camp at Fossoli.
