The Jewish quarter of Florence was attacked following the fall of the Médicis and the preaching of Savonarole.
The Dominican friar, master of the city, demanded the founding of a monte di pietà against the Jewish moneylenders and their expulsion; the crowds who followed him turned on their homes. The Médicis, upon their return, recalled the Jews, as they had done before.
