The inhabitants of the ghetto rise up on August 16; the ghetto is liquidated in a few days towards Treblinka and Majdanek.

The enclosed quarter of Białystok, one of the last still standing in Poland, had been maintained for its textile workshops, which worked for the army. Its liquidation was announced in mid-August by an order of assembly.

A group organized for months then attacked the police cordons with a few weapons and incendiary bottles; the fighting continued for several days in the streets and in the cellars. The quarter was then emptied toward Treblinka and Majdanek, and its children sent to Theresienstadt and then to Auschwitz.
