Border town on the left bank of the Dniester, Yampil saw Jews from the locality and deportees from Bukovina mingling in its ghetto, under the guard of the gendarmerie and in the utmost destitution.
Yampil, on the Dniester, serves as a crossing point for columns of deportees being driven toward the eastern bank of the river. The local community, locked in with them, endures requisitions, hunger, and roundups; the sick and those unable to walk are shot on the riverbanks.
