The Shoah (1939–1945)

Deportations from Rava-Ruska

1942·Rava-Ruska

Toll
plusieurs milliers de déportés

The toll is reproduced exactly as the source states it — never rounded, never added to another. Tolls overlap from one event to the next.

The city, a railway hub close to the region's killing center, sees its own community deported in two major roundups; between convoys, overcrowding and typhus claim as many lives in the ghetto as shootings do.

Rava-Ruska, a railway hub in Galicia near the border of the Gouvernement général, serves as a staging point for convoys from the region. The Jews of the town and surrounding villages are concentrated in an enclosed quarter, then loaded in waves onto trains bound for a nearby extermination center. Those who attempt to flee the wagons are shot along the tracks, whose surroundings remain the most visible testament to these convoys.
