Rava-Ruska (Rawa Ruska in Polish), a city in eastern Galicia, was home to an ancient Jewish community attested since the sixteenth century. The city acquired a sinister notoriety during the Shoah: it served as a transit point for tens of thousands of Galician Jews deported to the Bełżec extermination camp in 1942.
