A former center of Galician fur trade, Tyśmienica saw its Jewish craftsmen employed then liquidated, the community being emptied in a few days to the neighboring city.

Tyśmienica, a town in eastern Galicia renowned for its furriers and tanneries, was home to an ancient community whose crafts had made the region famous. Under the occupation, the workshops were seized, families registered and taxed, and men sent to forced labor. The town's Jews were then crowded into an enclosed quarter, before being taken in stages to the neighboring city, the assembly point for convoys bound for the death camp; those who resisted or attempted to flee were shot on the spot.
