The town was the first in the General Government to be completely emptied of its Jews: gathered at dawn on the aerodrome, the inhabitants were directed by convoys towards towns in the Lublin region, the sick and the elderly shot on the spot.
Mielec, in western Galicia, is the first city in the Generalgouvernement to be entirely emptied of its Jews. At dawn, the inhabitants are gathered on the airfield grounds; the sick and the elderly are shot on the spot, while the others are sent in convoys to towns in the Lublin region, where most will perish the following year. The operation serves as a model for the waves of deportations that follow.
