Liquidation of the Krynki ghetto

Krynki, a small town in Podlachia near the border with Belarus, was home to a Jewish community that made up nearly the entire population and lived from leather tanning, an industry that had made the town's reputation. Occupied by the Germans in the summer of the third year of the war, it saw its population confined to an enclosed quarter and forced to work in the tanneries taken over by the occupier. The following autumn, this quarter was liquidated: its inhabitants were taken to the ghetto of Białystok, then transported to the Treblinka death camp.
