City of the lakes of Suwalszczyzna whose Jews are gathered in autumn and deported.

Augustów, a lake city in Podlachia, set on the canal that bears its name, was home to a Jewish community attested since the seventeenth century, living off timber floating and trade. In the summer of the third year of the war, as soon as the German troops entered, a portion of the men were gathered and shot in the surrounding forests; the remaining inhabitants were confined to an enclosed quarter. The following autumn, the occupying forces emptied this quarter and led the population to a regional assembly point, from which they were transported to the Treblinka death camp.
