The ghetto, one of the most populated in the forest region, was liquidated in two days; the inhabitants were led to pits near the station and shot by a security detachment assisted by the Ukrainian auxiliary police.
Kostopil, a town in Volhynia located on the Rivne railway line, sees its enclosed quarter emptied during the summer. The inhabitants are gathered at dawn and led to pits prepared in a nearby quarry. Craftsmen are spared for a few weeks to maintain the garrison, then shot. The accounts of the rare survivors, collected after the war, made it possible to establish the date and location of the pits.
