Końskie, a forge town in the northern part of the Radom district, was home to an ancient community whose trades revolved around iron and leather. The first days of the occupation were marked by an episode of public brutality that struck witnesses deeply, when Jews were forced to dig graves with their bare hands in the town square. A closed quarter was then established, swelled by people from neighboring towns and by expellees from Płock. In the autumn, the inhabitants were led to Treblinka. A labor workshop was maintained for several months, then dissolved.
