Mława, a town in northern Mazovia near the former Prussian border, annexed to the Reich, was home to an ancient and numerous Jewish community living from textiles and border trade. After the Germans' arrival, it endured raids, forced labor, and expulsions to neighboring localities. The remaining inhabitants were confined in an enclosed quarter where overcrowding and hunger claimed lives each week. In the autumn, the occupier emptied this quarter in several convoys and transported the population to the camp at Auschwitz. Those exhausted by the march were shot before embarkation.
