The Shoah (1939–1945)

Liquidation of the Kalush Ghetto

1942·Kalush

Toll
plusieurs milliers de morts

The toll is reproduced exactly as the source states it — never rounded, never added to another. Tolls overlap from one event to the next.

The community of the salt city is destroyed in several waves: shootings in a nearby wood, then convoys to a death center; the last inhabitants of the ghetto are shot down in autumn.

Kalush, a city in eastern Galicia known for its salt mines, sees its Jewish population confined to an enclosed quarter and then swept away in successive waves: executions in a nearby forest for some, railway convoys to an extermination center for others. The salt mine workers are kept for a few more months before being shot. The city is declared empty of Jews before the end of the year.
