Railway town in Podolia that came under Romanian administration, Jmerynka receives in its ghetto the Jews of the region and those that convoys deposit there; hunger, typhus and roundups claim the weakest.

Jmerynka, a major transit hub in Podolia, lies within the zone placed under Romanian administration, where the fate of the Jews depends on the orders of the local garrison. The inhabitants are herded into an enclosed quarter together with deportees from Bessarabia and Bukovina; raids, forced labor conscriptions, and hunger follow one another in relentless succession, and entire groups are led to the pits on the outskirts.
