The Shoah (1939–1945)

Deportations of Hrubieszów

1942·Hrubieszów

Toll
plusieurs milliers de déportés

The toll is reproduced exactly as the source states it — never rounded, never added to another. Tolls overlap from one event to the next.

The community was deported in two large round-ups to a death center in the region; between the two, the inhabitants remaining in the ghetto buried their dead in the cemetery and awaited the next convoy.

In Hrubieszów, the roundups of summer and autumn empty the enclosed quarter by convoys toward a regional extermination center, those unable to walk being shot in the streets and at the cemetery. A labor camp subsequently maintained for a few hundred men is liquidated in turn. The community, ancient and numerous, had made this city one of the Hasidic centers of the province.
