Deportation of Jews from Dąbrowa Górnicza

Dąbrowa Górnicza, a mining town in the Zagłębie region neighboring Sosnowiec, annexed to the Reich, was home to a Jewish community that had grown alongside the exploitation of coal and steel. Its inhabitants were first subjected to forced labor in the mines and workshops, then gathered into an enclosed quarter established in the Środula suburb, shared among the towns of the basin. In the summer, the occupier carried out the great selections of Zagłębie: the inhabitants were taken to the sorting center in Sosnowiec, then transported to the nearby camp of Auschwitz. A small number were kept back for labor.
