Administrative center of Masovia annexed to the Reich, whose community is deported in autumn to Auschwitz.

Ciechanów, a city on the plain of northern Mazovia annexed to the Reich in the autumn of the first year of the war, had harbored a community attested since the fifteenth century, which made up approximately one third of its inhabitants. Attached to the province of East Prussia, it endured a harsher regime than that of the General Government. The inhabitants were first confined to an enclosed quarter, subjected to forced labor, then, in the autumn, transported by rail convoys to the camp of Auschwitz. A portion had previously been transferred to other localities in the region. The community disappeared entirely.
