Liquidation of the Brzesko ghetto

Brzesko, on the road from Kraków to Tarnów, was home to a community of merchants and brewers. Under the occupation, the Jews of the town and surrounding villages were confined to a quarter of narrow streets near the market. Forced labor on roads and the railway claimed the men. In autumn, the liquidation operation gathered the population in the square; the sick and the elderly were shot, the others marched on foot to the station and then transported to Bełżec. A small number was kept behind to clear the quarter and sort through the belongings left behind, before being sent to the Płaszów labor camp.
