Forest town in southern Lubelskie, whose Hasidic community was transported in autumn towards Bełżec.

Biłgoraj, nestled in a region of forests and weavers, was home to one of the oldest communities in the southern part of the Lublin district; prayer books were printed there, and the city had given scholars to the Hasidic world. The occupation imposed forced labor, then gathered the Jewish population into a closed quarter that also received Jews from neighboring towns. In the spring and autumn, this quarter was emptied toward Bełżec. The nearby forests sheltered fugitives, some of whom joined the armed groups of the region; most were tracked down during the raids carried out the following winter.
