The Shoah (1939–1945)

Liquidation of the Kamin-Kashyrskyi Ghetto

novembre 1942·Kamin-Kashyrskyi

Toll
plusieurs milliers de morts

The toll is reproduced exactly as the source states it — never rounded, never added to another. Tolls overlap from one event to the next.

The community of the small town in the marshes, one of the oldest in Polesia, is annihilated at the beginning of winter; the inhabitants are led out of the town and shot, and the last artisans killed shortly after in the courtyard of their workshop.

The enclosed quarter of Kamin-Kashyrskyi, in the heart of the Polésie marshes, is liquidated in the autumn, its inhabitants led in groups toward pits dug at a distance from the town. The terrain, made up of peat bogs and woodland, had allowed a few young people to flee in the preceding weeks and join armed detachments; it is their testimonies that established the course of the operation.
