Small town west of Lublin whose community is taken in spring to the death camp, the last shot on the spot the following year.
Bełżyce, southwest of Lublin, was home to a community of weavers and small traders. A closed quarter was established there which received, in addition to the local inhabitants, Jews from the surrounding villages and convoys arriving from Cracow and the Reich. Typhus broke out in winter. In spring, a first operation led part of the population to Sobibór; the remainder was held in a labor camp set up on site, where the men were employed in construction work and road maintenance. This camp was in turn liquidated, and the last inhabitants of Bełżyce were transferred to Majdanek or shot in the town's Jewish cemetery.
