From the fourth to the sixth day of July, following the discovery of the bodies of prisoners executed by the NKVD, the population and the Germans turned on the Jewish quarter of Ternopil for three days.
Eastern Galicia experienced, within a few weeks, a series of such pogroms, encouraged by the Einsatzgruppen, who received instructions to incite "self-cleansing actions" while remaining unseen. The document exists: it calls for these movements to be triggered and then attributed to the local population, with no trace of the incitement to remain.
