In two days, nearly all the Jews of the city are shot in the Sosenki woods.
Rovno, the administrative capital of occupied Ukraine, was home to one of the largest Jewish communities in Volhynia. In early November, a posted notice ordered all those who did not hold a work certificate to assemble with food supplies for three days.
Those gathered were marched on foot to the Sosenki forest, a few kilometers from the city, where pits had been prepared in advance; the executions lasted two days and continued under the light of searchlights. Those who had been retained for labor would be killed the following summer.
