Rivne (Rowne or Równe), a city in Volhynia, had an important Jewish community since the sixteenth century. In the twentieth century, Jews formed nearly half of the population and animated local economic and cultural life. During the Shoah, the community was liquidated in two major operations in November 1941 and July 1942.
