Shootings of Dubno
Août 1941·Doubno
The toll is reproduced exactly as the source states it — never rounded, never added to another. Tolls overlap from one event to the next.
First major shootings in the town, continued until the liquidation of the ghetto in October 1942.
The first large-scale mass shootings of Doubno took place at the end of summer; they continued in waves until the liquidation of the ghetto the following year.
Doubno is the site of a celebrated testimony: that of German engineer Hermann Graebe, who would describe at the Nuremberg trials what he witnessed at the edge of the pits — families undressing, waiting their turn, a father pointing to the sky for his child. It is one of the first detailed descriptions of such mass shootings to be heard by a tribunal.
