Town in the foothills of the Carpathians, Delatyn sees its Jews gathered in the square then taken to a nearby quarry where they are shot in waves throughout the autumn.

Delatyn, a market town in the foothills of the Carpathians along the mountain pass routes, lived by timber, salt, and transit trade. Its community, intermingled with the surrounding Hutsul villages, was struck in the very first weeks of the occupation: assembly in the marketplace, selection, then a march toward a quarry and the ravines nearby where shootings were repeated throughout the autumn, in waves, police units returning to hunt down those who had hidden in the forests. The houses were looted, the synagogue burned, and of the Jewish town there remained only a handful of survivors who had taken refuge in the mountains.
