Two successive pogroms
janvier et mars 1919·Jytomyr

community attacked by Petlioura's troops then by local bands
Jytomyr experienced two successive pogroms, in January and then in March, the community being attacked first by Petlioura's troops, then by local gangs.
The city changed hands several times in a single year, and each change exacted the same price. Such was the rule of this civil war: armies succeeded one another — Ukrainian nationalist, White, Red, bands of autonomous atamans — and almost all of them, with the relative exception of the Red Army, struck the Jews as they passed.
