the Jews of the town plundered and beaten by armed bands

Horodnia, a small town in the Tchernihiv governorate on the northern left bank, was home to a Jewish community established since those districts were first opened to settlement. During the civil war, armed bands roaming the countryside seized Jewish homes there. The inhabitants were looted and beaten, their stores carried off. The Tchernihiv district, less often cited than Podolia, had its own share of pogroms as well.
