Successive pogroms by troops taking and retaking the town

1919·Ekaterinoslav

Toll
inconnu

The toll is reproduced exactly as the source states it — never rounded, never added to another. Tolls overlap from one event to the next.

Ekaterinoslav experienced successive pogroms in rhythm with the troops that took and retook the city.

The city had already been struck during the two previous waves. What changes here lies in the context: there is no longer a State to which a protest could be addressed, no commission of inquiry, no press to establish the facts. Jewish relief committees and the Red Cross are the only ones that count, and it is to their archives that we owe today the bulk of what is known.
