Jabotyn is located in the Tchyhyryn region, within reach of the Motronyne monastery where Maksym Zalizniak gathered his men and where tradition holds that he had their knives blessed before setting out. The town was taken and its Jewish quarter destroyed. Its proximity to the heart of the uprising explains why it was struck among the first: the revolt spread outward in concentric circles, from town to town, before reaching the stronger fortified places. The sources provide neither lists of victims nor counts of burned houses for these localities; they have retained only the names of the places taken, and it is on that basis that Jabotyn appears here.
