the community destroyed at the beginning of the uprising
The community of Pereïaslav was destroyed at the very outset of the uprising, in the first weeks of the Cossack revolt.
It was at Pereïaslav that Khmelnytsky concluded, a few years later, the treaty that placed Cossack Ukraine under the protection of the Tsar of Moscow. This shift drew the Muscovite wars into the region and prolonged by more than a decade the destruction begun with the revolt.
