In Carmona, the New Christians were attacked and driven from the city during the Andalusian wave.

The paradox of those years is complete: the conversos were no longer Jews in law, they were no longer so in the eyes of the Church, and it was precisely for this reason that they fell under a jurisdiction from which Jews remained exempt — the Inquisition being able to judge only the baptized. The baptism that was meant to protect, delivered them.
