the community destroyed
The community of Zwickau, in the Erzgebirge, was destroyed during the Black Death.
The city lived off silver mines and the cloth trade; its Jewish moneylenders disappeared with the wave, and Judaism did not reappear there until the nineteenth century.
The community lived in the street running alongside the church of Sainte-Marie, and its cemetery was taken from the survivors; its stones were used in the city's construction.
