The community of Marbourg was destroyed during the Black Death.

The city of Saint Elizabeth was a major pilgrimage site of the Empire, and its ancient Jewish community vanished with the wave; it did not reappear until the following century.

The houses of the community, in the lower town, were taken over by the burghers, and the debts cancelled in favor of the debtors, in accordance with the custom of those years.
